Hobart tennis stops Nazareth, 5-2

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart tennis team posted a 5-2 victory over visiting Nazareth College at the HWS Tennis Center this afternoon. The win snapped a six-match slide for the Statesmen.
Playing its first outdoor match of the spring, Hobart got off to a good start by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. First-year James Micheroni (Sharon/Sharon, Mass.) and senior Adam Raffa (Concord-Carlisle/Concord, Mass.) improved to 4-3 on the season as the top doubles tandem, while junior Matt Silver (Weston/Weston, Mass.) and sophomore Nick Raho (Wheeler School/Providence, R.I.) posted the other win.
In singles, Micheroni and junior Ronny Koenig (Roslyn/Roslyn, N.Y.) named up two quick point with straight sets wins at No. 1 and No. 6. The Golden Flyers posted three set wins at No. 2 and No. 5 to add some drama to the match, but sophomore Charlie Davis (Manlius-Pebble Hill School/Cazenovia, N.Y.) secured the win with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 3.
Silver added the final point to Hobart's win with a three-set win of his own, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Statesmen are back in action on April 1, when they travel to St. Lawrence for a 1 p.m. match.
